As a kid I always loved dying Easter eggs with my mom. Back then, my mom just bought that kit at the store for $1.00 with the egg wrappers that never seemed to fit right. These days, there are fun new ways to color Easter eggs and one of them is done by using markers and coffee filters. I have been making Coffee Filter Dyed Easter Eggs with my kids for years. It’s less messy than other ways of coloring eggs I’ve tried over the years and I love revealing the pretty patterns on the eggs when we are done.
Coffee Filter Dyed Easter Eggs
Here’s what you need:
- Hard boiled Eggs (as many as you want)
- Coffee Filters
- Washable Markers
- Rubber Bands
- Spray Bottle with Water
Here’s what you do:
1. Fold one of your coffee filters in half and use your markers to color in different spots all around the filter. Make sure to press hard so that the color bleeds through to the other side of the filter. Repeat this step with other colors.
2. Open the filter up and place one hard boiled egg in the middle. Wrap the coffee filter around the egg and tie off with a rubber band.
3. Place the wrapped eggs on to a paper plate and squirt each egg with water until it is completely wet. Don’t add to much water, just add enough so that it is wet but not soaked.
4. Place the wrapped eggs into the fridge for about 20-25 minutes. Take out and unwrap each egg to reveal its pretty pattern.
Unwrapping them is my favorite part! I love to see what designs end up on the eggs.
This is an easy and fun idea for the kids and it makes much less of a mess than other ways to dye Easter eggs. Have Fun dying your Coffee Filter Dyed Easter Eggs and be sure to tag me in any social media posts so I can see yours.
