Upcycled Christmas Crayons

Do you have millions of little broken crayon pieces laying around your house? Ok, maybe not millions, but a lot? We do, too. Once I collect up enough little crayon bits, I like to reuse them and make some fun themed or holiday crayons out of them. Not long ago I made some Upcycled Christmas Crayons out of all our little crayon pieces. You see, it’s wicked easy to do and the kids love having new crayons to use – especially these ones, which are so fun and festive to use during the Christmas season.

Upcycled Christmas Crayons

Here’s what you need:

• Crayons (use old broken crayons)
• Wilton Christmas Cookie Pan (or whatever you like)
• Xacto Knife

Here’s what you do:
1. Start by removing any papers that are left on any of your old broken crayons. The easiest way that I’ve found to remove them is to slice through the paper with an xacto knife (parents only!) What I do is just make a pile of the crayon halves and let the kids have fun peeling the labels off. Anyhow, the paper should come right off, but if they are older crayons, they may have a small amount of glue residue left behind. It should just rub right off.

2. Break crayons into small pieces. Sort by like colors and set aside for now.

3. Preheat oven to 325 degrees.
4. Fill the Christmas pan with all of your broken crayon pieces. Be sure to fill each space to the top.

5. Place the pan in oven for about 8-10 minutes or until the wax is completely melted.
6. Remove the pan from oven and let it cool on the counter for 25-30 minutes.

7. Place cooled pan in freezer for 5-10 minutes because cold crayons will pop right out of mold. And that’s it – your crayons are done!

Let your kids use them or give them as gifts to their friends.
