“I’m Bored” Chore Jar

If you hear "I'm bored" A LOT, make an “I’m Bored” Chore Jar so that every time your kids say it, you can give them something to do! Believe me, it works and it's super easy to make.

Here in Massachusetts, we are just getting back to school from February vacation. I know that school breaks are different in other parts of the country, but here we have a week off at Christmas, a week in February and another week in April. My kids are a bit older, so I hear “I’m bored” A LOT. So I decided to make an “I’m Bored” Chore Jar so that every time they said it, I was able to give them something to do! Guys, it works and it’s super easy to make.

“I’m Bored” Chore Jar

If you hear "I'm bored" A LOT, make an “I’m Bored” Chore Jar so that every time your kids say it, you can give them something to do! Believe me, it works and it's super easy to make.

Here’s what you need:

  • Glass jar or other container you have around the house
  • Craft sticks
  • Markers
  • Hole punch
  • Twine or ribbon
  • Scissors
  • “I’m Bored” Chore Jar printable (get yours here)

Here’s what you do”
1. On either plain or multi-colored craft sticks, write down some chores that the kids are responsible for. Make sure you just write one chore per stick. These can be age appropriate chores for all of your children, or you can choose to make a separate jar for each child.

2. Cut out the “I’m Bored” Chore Jar printable and punch a hole in one end of it.

3. Place your craft sticks that have been labeled with chores in to your jar.
4. Cut a piece of twine or ribbon, and thread it through the printable card. Tie the printable label to your jar with the twine/ribbon.

Whenever your child comes to you and says they are bored, direct them to choose a stick from the “I’m Bored” chore jar and watch all the chores get done!

My new “I’m Bored” Chore Jar really helped my kids keep themselves occupied over school break. While they still had chores to do, knowing that they were going to get assigned a chore whenever they said they were bored really helped them find other things to entertain themselves.
