Dr. Seuss’s birthday is quickly approaching on March 2nd. Can you believe he would have been 111 years old this year? His books are timeless classics and my boys both enjoy reading many of his stories.
One of my favorite books growing up was One Fish Two Fish by Dr. Seuss. This book came out in the 1960’s and continues to be a huge hit today. I love taking the concepts of Dr. Seuss and turning them into something fun for the kids to do. The craft we did is a spin off One Fish Two Fish by Dr. Seuss.
Supplies:
Construction Paper
Various Color Paint
Glitter
Paint Stampers
Paper Plates
Directions:
1. Spread paint out on paper plates. We chose to use red, blue, and green because those are the only paint colors we had on hand. Dr. Seuss would want you to use your imagination, so go ahead and give it a try! Use whatever paint you have on hand.
2. Dip your hand in the paint. If your kids are younger, they will need some direction. Your “fish” can go to the left or to the right. Whichever you choose.
3. WAIT FOR THE PAINT TO DRY. (This is so hard and we about lost our patience trying to get our paint to dry, but it’s important).
4. After the paint has dried, you can use the paint stampers to make the fish more colorful. We also drew fish faces on our fish, which was fun. I really thought our fish looked like something out of Dr. Seuss’ books.
5. To make your fish like the fish from the book, you can write “one fish” “two fish.”
We had fun hanging our fish on the fridge for a little reminder of the fun we had with Dr. Seuss today. I’ll even share a little snippet of the book with you!
One fish, Two fish, Red fish, Blue fish,
Black fish, Blue fish, Old fish, New fish.
This one has a little car.
This one has a little star.
Say! What a lot of fish there are.
Yes. Some are red, and some are blue.
Some are old and some are new.
Some are sad, and some are glad,
And some are very, very bad.
Why are they sad and glad and bad?
I do not know, go ask your dad.
Some are thin, and some are fat.
The fat one has a yellow hat.
From there to here,
From here to there,
Funny things are everywhere.
Here are some who like to run.
They run for fun in the hot, hot sun.
Oh me! Oh my! Oh me! oh my!
What a lot of funny things go by.
Some have two feet and some have four.
Some have six feet and some have more.
Where do they come from? I can’t say.
But I bet they have come a long, long way.
we see them come, we see them go.
Some are fast. Some are slow.
Some are high. Some are low.
Not one of them is like another.
Don’t ask us why, go ask your mother.
